They will understand matchups and RPS on a whole higher level than anyone else and might be able to do something." Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC," reads an official blurb about the game. After some of the ridiculous missteps they've made with balances several months ago, I think it's MORE THAN FAIR to suggest that pros play at least some role. This is why I became concerned when a pro straight up told Drew that the devs should consult pros re:balance, and Drew responded by saying that was a toxic thing to say. You almost need to play 100 games a day for years to truly understand the balance of this game at this point, because it's about more than just win rates, it's complex deck vs deck interactions. And I think that's where balance has become really tricky for the devs to do. The game was not necessarily better back when it was 65 cards with 10 being trash and 10 being very niche. For example, I swapped mega minion for flying machine and immediately started winning every match against the bomb tower/gy/poison control deck, but now usually lose to pekka bridge spam with poison, or balloon, which I always used to win. If you run something like royal hogs, the existence of bomb tower in more than 10% of decks very much narrows what you can win >50% of games with. It's also old cards that get reworked, like bomb tower. I think you're very correct about new cards making the game more RPS. But RPS is what keeps crappy players playing and as long as the RPS doesn't affect pros (they mostly just don't use E-Giant at all) the game stays kind of balanced and people both sucky players (like me) and pros keep playing. So yeah, E-Giant/MW (the two newest cards) are kind of RPS bitches for the vast majority of people. I remember my 12-0 runs on ladder but forget my 6-6 runs and even my 4-8 runs.)įor the pros who do challenges and are top ladder: Every loss matters, so they choose decks that will minimize their chances of losing. And that's fine, because most players are playing ladder where your win/loss isn't really tracked in any meaningful way (yes, your overall trophy level is actually a product of win/loss but nobody thinks of it that way because it's not explicit. Given two people who kind of stink at the game, the way one person wins is through RPS. So, how do we make the game fun for those of us who suck? RPS. But at any kind of strategic level, most of us suck: We barely count elixir or cycle well (or force opponent to cycle badly.) Let's be honest: Most players suck at Clash Royale (myself included!) I mean, we know the basics of the game and at micro-tactics level, we do OK. When you're playing an opponent of equal skill on ladder, the one with a better mu will usually win, so it's just like a game of luck. I find that my losses are usually not to opponents that have more skill, but to opponents that have a better mu. I just find myself unsatisfied with what they've turned this game into. I could go on about all the "new" cards but this post would go on forever. Useless if opponent has no swarms, but will absolutely tear you a new ass if you run a swarmy deck. It introduces more of a rps type matchmaking that nobody likes. In my opinion, quite a lot of the newer cards are unnecessary like egiant. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that my opponents absolutely hate egiant, it's basically golem 2.0, but even more annoying. With earthquake being so widely used, buildings/siege(which is egiants weakness) are not used by many except those who have no choice or 1 trick it. Only bait(with inferno tower), icebow, and some pekka decks have a chance at stopping egiant from obliterating everything you know and love. Traditional support troops like musk and some tank killers like inferno drag are not viable to stop egiant. ![]() It's low skill and has a great mu against a ton of decks. ![]() I personally have this card maxed, and use the meta egiant deck on ladder.
